Faith on the Road
Michael James Mette’s Musical Ministry
“Passionate like a Friday night and reverent like a Sunday morning,” is the way Catholic composer and singer Michael James Mette describes his 90-minute musical ministry experience. Michael, a Catholic Financial Life member, has been performing full-time since 2013, though he has been writing and singing for many years.
Air Force veteran and former youth minister, Michael, his wife, Michelle, and their six children, travel the highways of America pulling a classic Airstream — at least for now. To continue to keep their growing family together throughout the year, they’re hoping to retro t a used motor
coach to make traveling a little more comfortable. Mom and Dad Mette perform in small towns and big cities alike, sharing their faith journey through music and a multi-media presentation that o ers quiet observations and re ection one minute, powerful melody and lyrics the next.
At present Michael has three albums available. His most recent is Arts + Humanity (2015), which explores the intersection of church and culture. His second album Bring Forth the Light (2012) delves into the themes of eternal life, human love, and redemptive su ering. His rst, Always What I Need (2010) invites listeners to trust in God’s providence.
Catholic Financial Life has been working with Michael to introduce his music
to our members. Accompanied by his family, he led the music during liturgies held at two of the 2014 Fraternal Leadership Conferences, one in St. Louis, Missouri, and the other in Marlborough, Mass.
He also performed for home o ce associates last summer, and returned later in the year to produce a Christmas video recorded in Catholic Financial Life’s Marian Chapel. (Visit join. catholic nanciallife.org/christmas-carol to view.)
Plans are currently underway for four concerts to be held in April in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee as well as one in San Antonio, Texas. Late summer will bring Michael and his family to New England where plans are in place for a series of performances in that region. All concerts will be sponsored by Catholic Financial Life chapters.
According to Senior Vice President – Membership John Borgen, “We are proud of our association with Michael James Mette. He and his family are an ideal image for Catholic Financial Life as we look to engage today’s Catholics in a strong, relevant, and vibrant commitment to our faith.”

Family love is given the ultimate test when two adults and six children live in a space capsule on wheels — an Airstream trailer measuring 34 feet long and just under 8 feet tall. Being part of the new evangelization takes on real meaning and real sacri ce when you’re rolling along the road, family in tow, for more than 30,000 miles a year. Parish to parish, county upon county, state after state, mile unto mile, you make your life a living testament to spreading the Good News.
The work is important and the ministry critical, and the spiritual high you feel and share with others in preaching the Truth is worth it in the end. Still, you have to live the day-to-day realities of caring for your children, feeding their bodies while educating their minds and souls.
Airstream living is not for everyone. But currently, for the Mette’s, it’s a faith adventure that is creating family memories of a lifetime.
